Crisp, Tidio or tawk.to: choosing more than live chat
Compare the complete support journey behind the chat widget, with verified team prices, package limits and a practical trial for your SaaS shortlist.

What do five and ten person teams actually pay?
These are total base subscriptions in US dollars on monthly billing, excluding tax, AI usage and optional extras. Each row covers the stated number of people; it is not a price per seat. The feature column matters because these packages do not provide identical support journeys.
| Package | 5 or 10 people monthly | Relevant scope |
|---|---|---|
| HelpDesky Pro | $15 regular; $9 offer | One workspace; unlimited seats, articles and conversations; help centre and ticket centre |
| Crisp Essentials | $95 | 10 seats; knowledge base and shared inbox |
| Crisp Plus | $295 | 20 seats included; customer portal and ticketing |
| Tidio Starter | $29 | 10 seats; 100 billable human conversations monthly |
| Tidio Growth, starting tier | $59 | 10 seats; 250 billable conversations; assignment and permissions |
| tawk.to free core | $0 | Unlimited agents; chat, knowledge base and ticket follow up; vendor branding |
HelpDesky's current code 40OFF6 gives $9 monthly for the first six months, then $15. This offer is separate from its regular price. Sources: HelpDesky plans, Crisp packages, Tidio plan limits and Tidio's published USD monthly rates, plus tawk.to's free model and unlimited property members.
Crisp Mini's four seats do not cover either team above, and Essentials is the relevant entry point for its knowledge base. Tidio's rows price the conversation platform: we could not verify a hosted public help centre or authenticated customer ticket portal as an included feature on its pricing page. Confirm that requirement separately before treating either row as a complete replacement.
| Compared with | HelpDesky $15 regular | HelpDesky $9 offer |
|---|---|---|
| Crisp Essentials, $95 | 84% lower | 91% lower |
| Crisp Plus, $295 | 95% lower | 97% lower |
| Tidio Starter, $29 | 48% lower | 69% lower |
| Tidio Growth starting tier, $59 | 75% lower | 85% lower |
| tawk.to free core, $0 | $15 more; percentage not applicable | $9 more; percentage not applicable |
These are rounded base subscription differences for either the five or ten person team on the monthly packages above, calculated as (competitor fee minus HelpDesky fee) divided by competitor fee. They are not full bill savings or a claim of feature equivalence.
What happens after the chat ends?
A useful shortlist starts with the customer's next step. Can someone find an answer without waiting for staff, send the details of an unresolved problem, and return tomorrow to continue it?
A public help centre provides reusable answers. An agent ticket inbox organises work for your team. A customer portal lets the customer revisit their own conversations. A product can provide one or two of these without providing the third in the form your application needs.
Use our guide to contact forms, AI chatbots and ticket portals if you need to define those roles first. Then ask each shortlisted vendor to demonstrate the same customer journey, including what happens when nobody is available.
When is Crisp the stronger shortlist choice?
Crisp deserves a close look when several messaging channels feed a shared team. Its Essentials guide lists knowledge base publishing, routing, workflows and channels including WhatsApp Business and Instagram. Those capabilities may justify paying more than a small website support stack costs.
Be precise about the customer portal requirement. Crisp lists that under Plus, while Essentials already includes a knowledge base. Do not buy the lower tier on the assumption that the words “support platform” promise the same customer experience.
Essentials includes $25 of Hugo AI credits, with an estimated conversation count rather than an unlimited AI allowance. For a deeper cost breakdown, see our HelpDesky and Crisp comparison.
When does Tidio fit the way you work?
Tidio is worth testing when your team starts with website conversations and wants automation around that inbox. Choose the human conversation allowance before adding AI. Its billable conversation definition concerns exchanges handled by human agents, rather than charging for every individual message.
Starter covers 100 such conversations monthly. Growth starts at 250 and offers higher allowances at higher prices. Free includes 50. The pricing page also distinguishes Lyro from Flows, so do not assume one allowance covers both products.

Its published USD rates put renewing Lyro at $39 monthly for 50 AI conversations. The initial 50 Lyro conversations are a trial allowance, not 50 free every month. Branding removal is an optional extra on Growth; it should not be assumed included or required for every buyer.
For the trial, bring one chat, one email and one issue that takes two days to resolve. Ask the vendor to show both the agent's view and the returning customer's view. A successful demonstration should answer your requirements without relying on a future integration.
Is tawk.to a genuine free alternative?
Yes. It should not be dismissed as a chat bubble with nothing behind it. Its product glossary describes knowledge base management and tickets, while its setup checklist permits any number of property members.
The free core is the lowest subscription cost in this shortlist. Removing tawk.to branding is optional at $29 monthly. AI Assist has a limited free tier and paid options from $29 monthly; those costs are separate from the free core. Do not add them to a comparison unless you need them.
Evaluate the actual follow up experience. Can your customer retrieve the right conversation, understand its status and reply with the missing detail? Decide whether the available journey fits your app rather than assuming that every product using the word “ticket” exposes an identical portal.
This official tawk.to video introduces common AI Assist questions. Use it as vendor background for your evaluation, not as evidence of HelpDesky performance or an independent quality benchmark.

Where does HelpDesky fit?
HelpDesky is a practical candidate for a SaaS team that wants help content and customer conversations together, without a subscription that grows with each teammate. Pro includes branding removal and the support tools shown above at one regular platform price.
The ticket centre reference documents a portal for authenticated app users to create conversations, view their history and reply. This requires an application integration. It is a useful buying distinction, not a promise that a public contact form automatically gives customers an authenticated history.

Bringing your own AI key gives you a choice among supported providers and models, visibility into the separate usage bill, and access to your provider's spending controls. Check how the chosen provider enforces those controls; do not assume every budget setting is a hard cap. Our own key and AI resolution cost guide explains that budgeting distinction.
How should you run a useful shortlist trial?
Use the same small set of tasks in every product. Choose a real explanation customers need, a question the documentation cannot answer, and a conversation requiring an engineering response. Use test accounts and invented customer details.
- Find the public answer from a customer entry point.
- Submit the unresolved question and assign a teammate to own it.
- Return as the customer and continue the conversation.
- Ask another teammate to take over without losing context.
- Price the package and usage needed for that complete journey.
If social channels and routing dominate the work, investigate Crisp's package fit. If conversation automation is central, test Tidio's allowances and customer journey. If the free core meets the need, tawk.to can be sufficient. If a SaaS help centre and continuing app support are the priority, include HelpDesky in the same trial.
Frequently asked questions
Is a ticket inbox the same as a customer portal?
No. An inbox organises work for agents. A portal is a customer entry point for returning to conversations. Verify both sides of the journey.
Which Crisp tier should a team needing help articles assess?
Essentials is the relevant knowledge base package in this comparison. Assess Plus when Crisp's customer portal is also a requirement.
Does Tidio's seat count determine the whole bill?
No. Human conversation allowances and separately selected automation products also matter. Price the monthly usage you expect as well as the seats.
Must a tawk.to customer pay to remove branding?
Only if removing that branding is a requirement. Keeping it allows the free core to remain a genuine option.
Does HelpDesky Pro include unlimited free AI?
No. Platform allowances and connected provider usage are different. Include the provider's usage bill when comparing your complete costs.
Should we migrate if our existing chat tool works?
Only when the proposed change addresses a clear gap. Test public answers, ownership and continuing conversations first; avoid a migration justified only by a feature list.
