How it works

  1. Paste a website URL

Any public site. A bare domain works too; we add https:// for you.

  2. We read the page like a crawler

The HTML, the theme-color tag and up to three same-host stylesheets are scanned in a few seconds. No JavaScript is run and nothing is stored.

  3. Copy the kit

Swatches with hex codes, the logo and favicon, a text-on-primary contrast check, and one-click export as CSS variables or JSON.

Frequently asked questions

How does the brand kit extractor find a website's colors?

It fetches the page you paste, reads its inline styles, style attributes, theme-color meta tag and up to three of its own stylesheets, and counts every hex colour it finds. The most used saturated colour becomes the primary, the next distinct one the accent, and the light and dark neutrals become background, surface and text. It is the same detector Helpdesky uses to brand a new help center.

Is this website color palette extractor really free?

Yes. Guests can run 5 extractions per day without an account, and a free Helpdesky account removes the limit. There is no credit card and nothing to install.

Can it get the logo from a website too?

It looks for an og:logo tag, images in the header or linked to the homepage, and images whose class, id or alt text mention "logo". For the favicon it checks apple-touch-icon and icon links on the page and confirms the file actually exists. Previews are shown when the file is served over HTTPS; the URL is always included in the JSON export.

Why is a colour missing or not what I expected?

The tool reads a site the way a crawler does, without running JavaScript. Colours applied only by scripts, written as HSL or named colours, or living in stylesheets hosted on a different domain or CDN are not counted. Very light or very dark brand colours can also be classed as neutrals. Trying the homepage instead of a deep page usually helps.

What does the contrast hint mean?

It is the WCAG 2.1 contrast ratio between text and your primary colour. A ratio of 4.5:1 or higher passes level AA for normal text; 3:1 is enough for large text (about 24px, or 19px bold). The hint tells you whether white or dark text is the safer choice on buttons and headers in that colour.

Does it work on any URL?

Any public website over http or https. Addresses on private networks, localhost, internal hostnames and unusual ports are refused, and the fetch gives up after 15 seconds or 1 MB of HTML. Redirects to a different domain are not followed, so paste the final address of the site.
